How to Protect Biodiversity in the Background of Climate Change? CANGO Organized Side Event to Assist Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15)

The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP15) is the first global conference of the United Nations held on the theme of ecological civilization. With the theme of “Ecological Civilization: Building a Shared Future for All Life on Earth”, the conference aims to promote the construction of global ecological civilization, emphasize that human beings and nature are a community of life, stress respect for nature, compliance with nature and protection of nature, and strive to realize the sustainable use and benefit-sharing of biodiversity by 2050 as proposed by the Convention, and realize the wonderful vision of “human being and nature living in harmony”.

 

The first phase of CBD COP15 has been held in Kunming, China, and the Kunming Declaration has been adopted:

•China has promised to speed up and strengthen the formulation and update of national biodiversity conservation strategy and action plan;

•Optimize and build an effective protection area system; and actively optimize the global legal framework on environment;

•Increase financial, technical and capability building support for developing countries to implement the “Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework”;

 

Further strengthen cooperation and coordinated action with existing multilateral environmental agreements such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, so as to promote the conservation and restoration of terrestrial, freshwater and marine biodiversity. In the second phase of the conference, China will continue to lead the conference as the COP15 chair country to make substantive progress. Through organizing side events, CANGO and its members and partners will help to realize the wonderful vision of “human being and nature living in harmony”.
